My personal jungle consists of 7 citrus trees, one pecan tree, 2 grape vines, 2 plum trees, 2 fig trees, several blueberry bushes, a Japenese plum tree, 14 rose bushes, 50 daylilies, 2 pomegranate trees, small vegetable garden, milkweed garden for our Monarch butterflies, pond with 5 large gold fish, and numerous small plants..........just to name a few. We are always looking for a new addition to fill one more blank space.
As I do with my shop tools, I always attempt to purchase the most highly recommended plants that I can afford. Thus, for example, my 2 plum trees are the recommended for Florida GULFROSE plum tree and the ROBUSTO as a good pollinator blooming at the same time as the Gulfrose. There are actually 4 recommended Florida plum trees but GULFROSE appeals to me and is easier to find. My citrus trees are all selected by our tastetest. Duncan Grapefruit has to be the best flavored grapefruit available today. It is the variety kept by nurserymen while they sell the other varieties. It has lots of seeds but the flavor is well worth the extra minute removing them. We planted citrus to spread ripening over spring to fall. If one has the opportunity he/she should taste PAGE AND PINEAPPLE especially. Our favorite plant nurseries are FLYING DRAGON (citrus) and PEACOCK NURSERY IN FLORAHOME, FL. for all the rest. Worth a 60 mile ride....great plants for reasonable prices.
