Shrubs are woody plants usually with multiple trunks and branches arising from near the roots. Shrubs remain small and globular compared to trees. In the cultivated landscape, shrubs provide structure, texture and color. Many can be pruned to form hedges and topiary figures.
Fall is considered an excellent time to plant shrubs, since they have time to establish strong roots before spring. American Meadows’ fall shrub sale list includes hydrangeas, such as the new 'Red Sensation', four cultivars of spirea, and five of weigela including the famous 'Wine and Roses'.
