1115 - Male Bourbon Red
The Bourbon Red turkeys were developed just after the civil war in my home state of Kentucky. Like the famous whiskey, this handsome creature hails from Bourbon County and was once raised in commercial quantities. These days they are mostly raised by hobbyists who enjoy having these handsome birds.

1117 - Royal Palm Turkeys
One of the smaller varieties, the Royal Palm toms grow to a maximum of about 20 pounds (half the weight of the commercially produced Bronze-breasted turkey). As you can see from the photo, they are refined in demeanor and ravishingly beautiful with metallic black and snowy white feathers.

1118 - Mary Kate the Wild Turkey
Mary Kate was a tame wild turkey who belonged to my neighbor. She was very friendly and curious and used to hang out with me - until she discovered boys. Last spring when she was setting on a clutch of eggs a varmint came and ate her. :-(

1119 - Ashley - A Wild Turkey Stuck Up a Redbud Tree
Her friend Mary Kate would lure Ashley to fly up on my roof but she had difficulty getting back down. She would hope a couple feet to this redbud tree and then usually fall the remaining 10 feet to the ground. Her back was kind of bent and curvy and I think this is the reason. Something ate her.

1120 - Rocky The Thanksgiving Duck
I had six ducklings last year. Apparently ducks are delicious and on the grocery list of every snake, fox, coyote, owl, gator, etc. All were gone by last Thanksgiving - except for Rocky (a Kahki Campbell duck) who lived until March (I think an owl got him). He was my best duck ever.

1185 - Royal Palm Turkey Tom
