Every year we celebrate Thanksgiving. Every year I post the story of Turkey Frank. Not so much because it is inspirational or entertaining but more because I don't have any other turkey stories to tell. Give thanks for that and click here to read about Turkey Frank.
The Bolivian sunflowers (Tithonia diversifolia) that I planted out back last spring grew to about 20-ft tall. Last month a storm blew them over. One is prostrate on the ground but the other tilts at an angle still holding its flowers 12-ft from the ground. Click to download a large version (800x600) for your computer desktop.
Here's an ant's eye view of a golden angel trumpet (Brugmansia aurea) blossom. These are pastel yellow when they open becoming a rich golden color. By tomorrow this beauty will be withered and faded. Click to download a large version (800x600) of this image to display on your computer desktop.
Bonita Belle is a female bronze breasted turkey who used to live next door to me. She liked stale bread, walks in the rain and pecking camera lenses when being photographed. I'm not sure what became of her but I fear the worst. Click to download a large version of Bonita Belle a big breast-of-bronze beauty to enjoy on your computer desktop

The Transplanted Gardener

Do you know where Florida's wildflowers are? Let Florida Wildflower Foundation know by 12/1/09! In 2010, the Foundation plans to survey other wildflower-profuse areas in the Panhandle and in North, Central, and South Florida. The surveys will identify showy areas of native wildflowers in order to document species and suggest management practices. This research also will help them promote Florida's native wildflowers as economic and intrinsic community assets.
Before they begin the surveys, they need your help to locate showy roadside or trailside (paved bike or foot path) native wildflower sites throughout the state. Ginny provides more information in Where Are Florida's Wildflowers?
Congratulations Ginny!
Floridata profiles plants for all climates and conditions but the state of Florida is our home and Ginny Stibolt writes Floridata's Transplanted Gardener columns just for gardeners in our state. So I'm very happy to congratulate her on the publication of her new book, Sustainable Gardening for Florida, by University Press of Florida. Florida gardeners really can make a difference, one yard at a time, by following her 8 steps to sustainability.
