About Floridata

Floridata is a photographic encyclopedia of landscape plants, an online plant & nature reference, and a gardening marketplace.

In 1996 Jack Scheper originally planned to do a virtual tour of his property, Floridune, on the web. The concept was that while touring the gardens one could click on a plant to learn more about it. It became quickly apparent that a reference would be more useful, specifically a photo encyclopedia of plants - and so Floridata was born. It's still growing ten years later - it's bigger and more comprehensive than Jack could ever have anticipated.

We make an effort to find people that know, grow and love the plants they write about. Our plan is to find dedicated and devoted professionals (landscapers, foresters, botanists, horticulturists, ecologists, etc.) and talented amateur gardeners who will use Floridata to communicate their knowledge and enthusiasm for plants, gardening and nature. Floridata contributors include:

Viewing Floridata
Floridata is a photographic encyclopedia of landscape plants. As such, it is graphics intensive. We are working to minimize the download times by re-using support graphics so that once you have viewed the Plant List page, or a few of the Plant Profiles, the load times are spent exclusively on loading the plant description content. As the site matures, we will continue to look for ways to increase efficiency and minimize wait time.

We recommend that you set your computer to "thousands" (15 bit) or "millions" (24 or 32 bit) of colors for optimal viewing of the plant photographs. We also recommend that you browse with Netscape 3.0 (or higher) or the Internet Explorer 3.0 (or higher). Enable Javascript and "cookies" in you browser's preferences for optimal navigation.

All Floridata photographs, data and text are the property of L.C. and may not be used for commercial purposes without written permission from the owner. Floridata photographs and resources may be used for non-commercial not-for-profit purposes by students and others if credit is given to
