All trees and shrubs replace their leaves, but evergreens do it gradually. They are never totally leafless as deciduous plants can be. Evergreens can be broad-leafed or needle-leafed. We use evergreen trees and shrubs for specimen plants and for hedges and screens. They are also used for topiary, the art of sculpting living plants.
